Anxiety is not just “too much worry”, but a deep state of inner restlessness where your mind never stops and your body stays constantly on alert. It can show up even when “there is no obvious reason”, when you cannot find a logic reason an this makes you judge yourself even more.

In reality, anxiety is your nervous system’s way of trying to protect you after long periods of stress, fear, shame or helplessness.

How anxiety feels in everyday life

For some people, anxiety means panic attacks, a racing heart and the fear that “something bad is about to happen”. For others, it looks like a constant mental noise, negative scenarios and the inability to truly relax.

It can show up as perfectionism, the need to control everything, avoiding social situations or finding it hard to say “no”. Concrete examples:

  • constantly checking your phone or email so you do not “miss” anything important;

  • postponing decisions because you are afraid to make a mistake;

  • saying “yes” to everyone, while inside you feel a strong “no”.

Why anxiety appears: emotions and inner stories

Behind anxiety, there are often emotions like fear, sadness and shame – emotions many of us learned when we did not feel safe. When these emotions are suppressed or invalidated for years, they do not simply disappear. Instead, they tend to remain stored in our body, eventually turning into agitation, tension and ongoing worry.

Emotions in this situation are often accompanied by a specific inner narrative: beliefs like “I am not enough”, “I always have to be strong”, “if I make a mistake, I will be rejected” that constantly feed anxiety.

How anxiety shows up in the body

Anxiety does not live only in your mind, it is also stored in your body. It can appear as:

  • muscle tension (especially in your jaw, shoulders, neck);

  • a lump in your throat or pressure in your chest;

  • digestive issues, a “tight” stomach or nausea;

  • difficulty breathing or the sensation that you cannot get enough air.

When you learn to notice these signals and respond with gentleness, your body can slowly come out of alert and feel safe again.

Gentle steps to start healing anxiety

You will not “get rid of anxiety overnight”. You need small, repeated steps that will show your body the way towards healing. A few starting points:

  • slowing down and noticing: “What am I feeling in my body right now?”

  • bringing your breath into the present. For example, inhaling for 4 seconds and exhaling for 6–8 seconds, a few times in a row;

  • putting your experience into words: “Right now I feel a lot of fear / shame / sadness, and it is okay for this to be here”;

  • seeking small but repeated experiences of safety: in relationships, in your body, in your inner space.

Anxiety begins to settle when you stop fighting it and start listening to it as an important message from within.

When it is time to ask for support

If you feel that anxiety is affecting your sleep, relationships, work or your capacity to enjoy life, you do not have to go through this alone. A safe, warm therapeutic space can help you understand where your anxiety comes from, what keeps it going and how you can build, step by step, a different inner story.

In therapy, we work not only with your thoughts, but also with your emotions and your body, along the axis mind–heart–body – so that the healing is deep and sustainable.

How I can walk this path with you

If you feel ready to take a step towards yourself, I invite you to explore the workshops and sessions dedicated to emotional healing and anxiety regulation. Together, we can create a space where you can listen to your body, understand your emotions and rewrite your inner story.
